How to clean luxury vinyl floors
Basic maintenance
- Use a damp cloth to blot up spills as soon as they happen to prevent stains.
- Sweep, dust mop or vacuum (air suction only) regularly to remove loose dirt and grit.
- Clean as needed with a lightly damp mop, clean water, and nonabrasive floor cleaner.
- Every so often, clean the floor with a product specifically made for vinyl floors by lightly spraying the product on to a soft cleaning cloth or mop.
What to avoid
- Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar or hard bottomed electric brooms without padding as they may scratch or dent your floor.
- Do not use any steam cleaners, pre-treated dust mops or buffing/polishing machines.
- Do not use soap, wax, oil based detergents, harsh cleaners, chemicals, strong ammoniated, chlorinated cleaners or floor shining products on your floor.
- Do not use steel wool or any abrasive scrubbing pads or tools on your floor.
- Do not expose floors to acetone or other harsh chemicals such as oil or petroleum-based products. Do not track asphalt-driveway sealer or automobile oil onto your flooring.
- Do not allow cigarettes or very hot items to come in contact with your floor.
- Do not allow anything sharp including damaged shoes to come in contact with your floor as they may cause damage.

Extra protection
- Protect your floor against direct sunlight or any intense source of artificial light, over time excessive light may discolor the floors. Block heat & fade-causing UV ray with protective window coverings and keep blinds or drapes closed during peak sunlight hours.
- Maintain consistent room temperature of 65°- 85° F and relative humidity levels of 35%-55% at all times.
- Invest in quality non-staining floor mats to help trap grit and absorb moisture at entry points. Mats should also be placed in high traffic areas as a way to reduce wear. Avoid rubber mats as they may discolor your floor.
- Protective mats and chair pads are required under office chairs as well as under furniture or chairs with castors. Replace plastic castors with soft wheels designed for vinyl floors.
- Add non-staining protective felt pads to all furniture and chairs legs for an extra layer of defense against indentations and scratches, replace them once they are worn or dirty. Generally, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector.
- Never slide furniture across the floor.
- Clean up spills or pet accidents immediately and keep your pet's nails trimmed to prevent them from scratching the floor.
